Birds do not typically lick elephant feet. However, some birds, such as oxpeckers and Egyptian plovers, are known to have a symbiotic relationship with some larger animals, including elephants.
Woodpeckers are known to perch on the backs of large mammals, including elephants, and feed on ticks, mites, and other parasites that live on the animals’ skin. They also feed on the mammals’ blood and dead skin. This behavior benefits both the birds and the animals, as the birds get a source of food and the animals get relief from parasites.
